Communication between colleagues is a very important task for a successful conference. ICAVS 8 will provide several opportunities for you to get together with the scientific community through it´s comprehensive social program.
Bruker Welcome Mixer (Sunday, 12th of July 2015, 6:00 to 8:00 PM)
The welcome mixer will be held on Sunday, July 12th, from 18:00 to 20:00 at the conference venue (TU Wien, Freihaus, Wiedner Hauptstraße 8-10). Please indicate if you plan to attend to welcome mixer during the registration, to make planning easier for us.
Shimadzu Young Scientists Event (Tuesday, 14th of July 2015, evening)
ICAVS 8 wants to provide networking opportunities especially for young/early career scientists, therefore a special event is planned for Tuesday evening. All conference attendees are invited to join the event; young scientist (please indicate that you are eligible during registration!) will receive special benefits (coupons for drinks, ...).
Excursions and Heuriger (Wednesday, 15th of July 2015, afternoon)
On Wednesday afternoon you will have the opportunity for networking while getting to know Vienna better. You can choose between two walking tours through Vienna’s historic center, a bus tour around the historic center including a visit to Schloss Schönbrunn (Imperial summer palace), and a bus and boat tour during the registration process. After the excursions we will all meet up at a typical Viennese Heuriger for a casual dinner (a Heuriger is a typical Viennese wine tavern). Excursion and Heuriger are included in the registration fee.
Walk through the “Old Vienna“
Meeting point: Freihaus/duration: app. 2 hours
The purpose of this walk is to present parts of old Vienna that cannot be shown to the visitor in the course of a regular sightseeing tour. Our walk takes us past the Imperial Palace, the winter residence of the Imperial family. After a walk through the Volksgarten we reach the Augustinian chuch, the wedding church of the Habsburgs and is also famous for its unparalleled acoustics. Many music concerts take place here, all year round. Subsequently, our walk leads us to St. Stephen’s Cathedrale.
Walking tour: Vienna – City of Music
Meeting point: Freihaus /duration: app. 2 hours
Vienna hosted numerous musicians who lived and worked in this city. On our tour we will pass the residences of Josef Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven to mention just a few. From the Vienna State Opera, one of the most famous Opera Houses in the World, we walk across the Augustinerstrasse to the Michaelerplatz. Finally you visit the "Haus der Musik" (house of music) where you can enjoy all conveniences an interactive museum has to offer.
Bus tour: Historical Vienna with tour through Schönbrunn Palace
Meeting point: Secession bus station / duration: app. 3 hours
To provide you with a first impression of the city, we start our tour at Ringstrasse. This boulevard with an approximate length of 4 km was created in the course of the city’s first expansion in the middle of the 19th century on the area of the former Glacis. We will see buildings like the Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Natural History, the City Hall, the Burgtheater, the Parliament, the University, and many more. The highlight of our excursion is a tour through Schönbrunn Palace, the summer residence of the former Imperial House of Austria.
Bus & boat tour: Panoramic Danube
Meeting point: Secession bus station / duration: app. 3,5 hours
We start our tour at Ringstrasse passing the Vienna State Opera, Burgtheater, Parliament and many more. The highlight of the tour is a boat ride on the Danube and the Danube Canal from the city center to the Reichsbrücke. Afterwards we take you to Cobenzl, from this vantage point you have a panoramic view form the hills of the Vienna Woods over vineyards on to the city and the danube.
Conference Dinner (Thursday, evening)
The conference dinner will be held in beautiful Palais Ferstel in Vienna’s historic first district. Dresscode: Business attire (men: suit, necktie; women: suit, cocktail dress). Cost is € 80,-.
